Whither Afghanistan?
What a tar baby. It's just not so simple to see how we get out of Afghanistan, either in the context of events over there or of politics here at home. One thing, though, is for sure: We won't win a military victory. To get a sense of how things are doing I turned to Wayne White, a former top intelligence analyst. We also talk about Iraq. I'm most grateful to Wayne for sharing his brilliant and exemplary insight. Anti-war arguments need all the help they can get! Total runtime an hour and thirty five minutes. History repeats itself… [Rough transcript, here.]

Why not have an interview with Eric Margolis on this subject? It could be refreshing with a not so mainstream, yet well informed commentator.
[Excellent suggestion. Indeed, I believe that Eric listens to the podcast occasionally. I've already asked him, however, for an interview but never got a positive reply. Unfortunate, but it happens. g.]

Another very useful conversation! Once again, Obama walking blindfolded into a quagmire.
Also worth hearing is this short (17min) conversation with Rory Stewart — an eloquent summation of why a surge wont work in Afghanistan. Stewart's spent more time on the ground in Afghanistan since 2001 than most other diplomats, and has a useful perspective.
