A Republic, or A Monarchy?

Milhous ILast November the voters sent a pretty clear message: "We're fed up, we think the country should be on a different track, and we want to see some accountability." Now that the Democratic party has taken control of Congress the question is whether they'll exercise that power according to their mandate — or were they merely the lesser hypocrites? Most importantly, will they accede to the Tyrant's unconstitutional aggrandizement of executive power or will they challenge it? Are the Democrats really democrats, at all? Perhaps it takes a conservative Republican with a conscience to put these issues best into perspective. Thus I'm very honored to talk with the distinguished constitutional lawyer Bruce Fein, who doesn't mince words about what should be done: Impeachment. Bruce gives the most forceful, articulate expression of this point of view I've yet heard. Total runtime here of about an hour and six minutes. Please listen twice and distribute widely.

What a great interview, George. Am sending it to as many people as I can.

Excellent. A 'keeper' which I'll have to listen to at least another couple of times to get the most out of. (I'm British so not so 'up' on the constitutional aspects.) Huge amount of info there! Too much to digest in one sitting.

It strikes me that when a conservative commentator like Bruce Fein gets as steamed up as that with a Republican President it's — "Houston, we have a problem!"

I hope there are enough checks and balances left in the US system to prevent Bush doing something really dumb before the end of his term. My hope is that the US military will collectively tell him where to get off. I don't have much faith in the Democrats (or at least most of them) doing likewise.

George,

This is a fun interview. However, I still do not think that Dems will have the guts to have a real go at the system. The only way this will change is if the media decides to look at the background of the Iraq War which the neocons trace back to 1989-92 or if there is some sort of real disastrous event in Iraq (i.e. The Lebanon Barracks type event).
