Podcast Schedule Late June/Early July
Starting up our summer season, this Friday my guest will be Melanie Warner, a former New York Times reporter and author of Pandora's Lunchbox: How Processed Food Took Over the American Meal (Scribner, 2013). She gives a very straightforward, mainstream account, full of facts, regarding the deeply scary things happening to our food. The Friday following, June 28th, my guest will be Dr. Jeffrey Herbst, President of Colgate University, talking about his 2009 article, co-authored with Greg Mills in Foreign Policy, "There Is No Congo: Why the only way to help Congo is to stop pretending it exists". I know, I know, this makes the fourth show on the Congo within recent memory, but finally I found someone who agrees with me and I had to interview him; we also take up some general observations regarding when a state is not a state, which may well be helpful applied elsewhere. Then, on Friday, July 5th, my guest will be Dr. Melvin Goodman, talking about his latest book, National Insecurity: The Cost of American Militarism (City Lights Books, 2013). After that, we'll see. I'll try to do one or two shows on Syria and I have a few other guests penciled in over the next several weeks. Thank you very much, I'm happy to be back — after an extremely productive break — and I hope most of you are still here, too. Thanks for listening!
