Assassinations, Inc.
So — Israel tells itself nobody knows what it's doing while it busily assassinates as many Iranian nuclear physicists as it can. Meanwhile, the serious Washington set struggles to find a one-sided definition of terrorism that's sufficiently salable, at least in a media pretend sort of way. But on that nuclear issue, let's not forget the NUMEC story. For a full accounting see Victor Gilinsky & Roger J. Mattson, "Revisiting the Numec Affair," Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, March/April 2010. It's behind a paywall, unfortunately, but the gist is that in the mid-1960s Israel probably surreptitiously (and very much illegally) took several hundred kilograms of highly enriched uranium from a plant in Pennsylvania, which Israel then used for its first nuclear weapons. Some "ally" — and the same applies for feverishly trying to get the U.S. to go to war with Iran...

Dear George
On this topic, I heard, recently, a very good interview with a researcher of this very issue, Grant F. Smith, who managed to extract relevant material through FOIA requests. That one is not behind paywall but available at the top of his own website

I hope you continue your podcast interviews. A very worthwhile endeavor in my view
Bonne annee 2012, from a French listener/reader

Those interested in the full story on NUMEC should absolutely read the Gilinsky-Mattson BAS piece suggested by George Kenney. The Jeffrey Blankfort radio interview is good too, even the quirky time-waster who calls in to run down the clock.
There has never been book-length treatment of the subject, including key declassified documents, until now. Divert! NUMEC, Zalman Shapiro and the diversion of US weapons grade uranium to the Israeli nuclear weapons program is now available for pre-order at Barnes and Noble online.
