I can tell you that Rye — and in this case it's pure Rye — makes a much better whiskey than Bourbon or other American whiskey containing some mix of corn, wheat, and malted barley. Rye is not so sweet as Bourbon and to my palette has more refined, complex and interesting flavors. A good Rye is likely also smoother than its Bourbon counterpart. In this case, WhistlePig is the very best high-end Rye I've had, although not the most expensive. And, btw, since a bottle of Rye can last me about six months — though this one probably won't — I don't mind splurging! g.]
