Kippers
In the mid-sixties my Dad worked at the U.S. mission to the common market, in Brussels. So the family did lots of traveling around Europe, including a fair number of trips to England. There, I discovered kippers. In later years, however, whenever I would buy a can of kippers, or order kippers in a restaurant, I got something other than the delicacy of memory. Something usually kind of tough, overly salted, maybe even with too many bones. In short, Yuck!
Out of nostalgia, with an undying sense of optimism, I thought I'd try an unfamiliar product the other day: Bar Harbor kippers. Oh. My. God! These things are tender, moist, fishy in a good way. Probably the best kippers I've had in my life. I was frying up a can, to have with scrambled eggs, but put the eggs aside and just had a plate of hot kippers in butter. Ambrosia!

People don't know what they are missing with kippered snacks, or herring in general, healthy awesome source of protein. If you're into fishing, take these with you for lunch and dip the lures in the left over oil in the can. Now I'm giving away secrets!
Great site btw, I've been reading this for years.
