Nader Helps McCain
Recent polls put Nader at about 5% in Missouri. Though the election is more likely to be an Obama landslide than not it's still possible than in the electoral college map Missouri could be important. Why, then, is the Nader campaign bragging about how well it's doing in Missouri and a couple other swing states? Why isn't Nader spending his time in states that clearly won't matter in the presidential race but where building local progressive constituencies could be helpful? Because for Ralph Nader it's about his ego, not his policies — and perhaps, to be cynical about it, because he thinks a McCain victory best serves his interests. A vote for Nader at this point, anywhere, is utterly wasted.

George,
I agree. I find Nader's Quixotic strategy to be infuriating and the plausible collateral damage horrifying to think of.
Thank you for your work and words. You have my votes.

I could disagree with you more. Very sad to see such uninformed comments.

Where is the term "political party" mentioned in the Constitution?
The truly wasted votes are the ones that will be cast for McCain and Obama. Those votes will only serve to maintain the dismal status quo, with increasing economic havoc, wars, and erosion of rights.
It the people who will vote for Nader, McKinney, Paul and others who do not waste their franchise.
When will the Democratic Party get the message? Never, if we all roll over every two years because they are the "lesser of two evils". They've had their chance and they blew it.
Who will roll back the Patriot Act and all the other Bush measures that abuse our rights? Obama, who voted for the FISA act? Who will stop the interventionist foreign policy of the US and roll back military spending? Who will off true single payer health care? Who will resist corporate power that now runs the agencies which are supposed to protect the citizens and the environment?
I refuse to vote for more of the same, and the Democrats are just that.
