Has McCain Lost His Marbles?

John McCainPeople who used to know him say that John McCain used to talk to himself regularly, at night, when alone in his Senate office. This is, indirectly, from disaffected former staff, and he treats many of his staff like crap, so take it with a grain of salt. I suspect, nevertheless, that it's true. In any case, McCain's recent gaffes on who are Sunni and who Shia don't seem to me trivial. Reviewing the tapes, what I see is an old guy who's already lost a few of his marbles — I'd expect to see continued deterioration over the next, say, four years. Unless, maybe, a medical review proved his mental fitness. There's that, and his cancer, too, which makes me wonder: why won't the McCain campaign release his most recent medical reports?

Singing 'Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran' more than qualifies as nuts to me. Even if there were every reason in the world to bomb Iran, which there most certainly is not, it would still be in awful taste, especially for a president.

McCain is well past his "best if used by" date.

He may be uniquely qualified to replace the idiots in office now. National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley referred to Tibet as "Nepal" throughout an interview (a total of 7 times) Sunday with George Stephanopoulos on ABC's This Week. He never corrected himself.

With Nepal's Maoist party taking a surprise lead in returns from last week's election, no wonder Hadley had Nepal on his mind...

Oh, I was sure that was why, George, and I'm also sure there has been a lot of discussion about Nepal. But I would hope that someone with the job title of "Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs" (of the most weaponized country in the world) would know what country was being discussed, not to mention know how to conduct himself in a public interview on national television.

Or perhaps he was signaling the next target...

If I was running John McCain's campaign, this is the type of story I would leak to the press so people could discuss it for a few weeks.

Then McCain can call a press conference in a couple of months to announce his clean bill of health. Thus, everybody will cheer and wave flags.
